George Thomas "G. T." Doughtie, Jr. of 218 Driftwood Lane, Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, October 4, 2008. Mr. Doughtie was born in Kelford, NC, September 28, 1925, the son of the late George Thomas Doughtie, Sr. and Bernice Braswell Doughtie. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty D. Hux and three brothers Emory, Eric and Obie Lee Doughtie. He was a retired electrician and was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII.

G.T. is survived by his wife of 58 years, Emma Davis Doughtie; his daughter Beth D. Edwards and her husband, Greg of Roanoke Rapids; his sons Carl "Rabbit" Doughtie and his wife Brenda Caswell Doughtie of Roanoke Rapids and Todd Doughtie of Roanoke Rapids; his brother Wesley Doughtie of Roanoke Rapids; three grandchildren, Shane Doughtie, Ryan Edwards and Kendall Edwards and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, October 7 at 11 a.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Kirk Taylor III officiating.

The Family will receive friends Monday, October 6, 2008 from 7- 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services at 731 Roanoke Ave in Roanoke Rapids.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Doughtie’s service to his country.
